Ful Medammes
This is the most common Egyptian breakfast menu. You can find sellers of ful medammes on the streets of Cairo and throughout the country. These foods may be very difficult to find outside of Egypt. Therefore, you need to try it occasionally while in the land of the pyramids.
Ful medammes is made from fava beans cooked in oil and salt. Previously the beans were soaked overnight and cooked for hours over low heat to remove the covering. This dish usually comes with steamed eggs, cheese, pita bread, and others.
Falael
The next typical Egyptian food that needs to be tasted is falael or ta'meya. This food is usually served in the Egyptian breakfast menu along with ful, eggs, cheese and pita bread. Pounded fava beans are the main ingredient for making the Egyptian ta'meya, with the addition of chickpea flour.
Other ingredients that are mixed into the falafel batter are cilantro, parsley, white onion, garlic and chives which are all finely chopped. Several spices are also part of this round fried food, including cumin, coriander, paprika, cayenne pepper, salt and pepper.

Koshari
If you want delicious and filling traditional Egyptian food, try eating Koshari. This dish consists of rice covered with macaroni, lentils and chickpeas. The toppings include caramelized onions, thick red sauce, and garlic/chili/vinegar/sauce.
Since Koshari is such a popular food, you can easily find it on the streets of Cairo and Egypt in general. This food is sold in roadside stalls to restaurants.
Mahshi
This typical Egyptian food is also served with rice, which is the main source of carbohydrates for Indonesians. Mahshi are basically vegetables of your choice stuffed with rice, such as zucchini, eggplant, bell peppers, tomatoes, cabbage leaves or grape leaves.
The filling itself consists of rice, spices such as parsley, cilantro, and dill, and a tomato sauce with spices and a touch of cinnamon. You can also add minced meat to the mahshi filling to enrich the taste of this delicacy.

Shawarmas
If you want to try a meat dish with a local Egyptian taste then you can try shawarma. The meat used to make shawarma is chicken, beef, lamb, goat, and turkey. The meat is marinated in Middle Eastern spices and cooked throughout the day on large skewers (similar to a kebab).
Likewise with the way of presentation, the meat will be thinly sliced and then rolled with flat bread or pita that has been steamed or heated. Other items like hummus, tahini, pickles, vegetables and even french fries are also added to the pita roll.
